site.btaBTA Hosts Literary Discussion Marking Pencho Slaveykov’s 160th Anniversary

A discussion marking the 160th anniversary of Pencho Slaveykov’s birth will bring together literary scholars, lecturers and librarians at the BTA National Press Club in Varna on Wednesday. The event, titled Pencho Slaveykov Today, is organized by BTA.

The discussion will be moderated by poet, literary scholar and critic Yordan Eftimov. Participants will include Professor Milko Petrov, Professor Margarita Pesheva, Professor Antonia Velkova-Gaidarzhieva, Pencho Slaveykov Regional Library Director Radka Kalcheva, Chief Librarian Kristiana Dimcheva and Chief Librarian Daniela Kaneva. It will focus on Slaveykov’s connection with Varna, the sea in his work, his cultural heroism and his relationship with his father, poet Petko R. Slaveykov.

The Pencho Slaveykov Today initiative is being held at all 33 BTA national press clubs in the country. The first discussion was held in his hometown of Tryavna on April 27, 2026, the 160th anniversary of his birth.

The December 2026 issue of LIK magazine will also be dedicated to Slaveykov. Alongside reports from the discussions, it will include 160 specially commissioned texts of 160 words each, written by 160 contributors to mark the anniversary.
