South-West University in Blagoevgrad has 550 international students during the 2025/26 academic year, including 120 from EU countries, the university told BTA.

Students come from 17 countries across Europe, Asia, and Africa and study in fields such as education, humanities, social sciences, business and law. The most popular programmes include Psychology, Computer Systems and Technologies, Education and Fashion.

The university emphasized it reports growing international interest each year, although admissions are determined by the government-approved enrollment plan. It attributes its appeal to the high quality of teaching, experienced academic staff, and modern facilities.

South-West University offers one of the broadest academic portfolios in Bulgaria, with 84 undergraduate and integrated master’s programmes, 137 postgraduate master’s programmes, and 84 doctoral programmes. The university partners with more than 120 European universities, providing students with international mobility opportunities through the Erasmus+ programme.
