Sofia will host the Open Balkan Rapid and Blitz Chess Championship – Sofia Cup 2026 on August 29 and 30, the Bulgarian Sports Chess Federation said on Friday.

The tournament, featuring a EUR 60,000 prize fund, will consist of a rapid event on August 29 of nine rounds with a 10+5 time control, while the blitz tournament on August 30 will be played over 11 rounds with a 3+2 time control.

The rapid champion will receive EUR 5,500, while the blitz winner will earn EUR 3,000. Prize money will be awarded to the top 15 finishers in both events. Additional prizes will be presented to the best-performing women, players over 50, under-20 competitors, and the top three players from the Balkans in each category.
