Master craftspeople are introducing children in Razgrad to the intricacies of traditional crafts through a workshop at the Ethnographic Museum in the town. The initiative is organized by the Regional History Museum as part of the 24th Yogurt Fair and Festival of Folk Traditions and Arts and Crafts.
Regional History Museum Director Tanya Todorova said forty children are participating in the workshop, where they are learning about some of Bulgaria's oldest crafts through hands-on activities led by established artisans. The workshop has become a traditional feature of the festival programme, aiming to foster younger generations' interest in Bulgarian crafts.
Pottery is among the highlights of this year's workshop. Tanya Staneva from the Etar Open-Air Ethnographic Museum in Gabrovo demonstrated the traditional technique of working with a foot-powered pottery wheel and showed how clay vessels are made.
In another part of the workshop, Donka Ivanova presented the technique of wool felting. Under her guidance, the children created decorative panels featuring motifs from Bulgarian embroidery.
Artisan Detelina Dacheva introduced the children to the basics of traditional Bulgarian embroidery and explained the symbolism of folk motifs.
At the end of the workshop, each child will take home the items they created as a souvenir of their participation.
