Bulgaria's Acting Prosecutor General Vanya Stefanova has honoured officials of the US Secret Service, the FBI, the US Department of Justice, and the US Embassy in Sofia, the Prosecutor's Office said on Friday.

The awards were presented in recognition of their substantial assistance and expert support in investigations into pre-trial proceedings involving cases of significant factual and legal complexity, as well as for joint training programmes that have helped enhance the qualifications and expertise of Bulgarian prosecutors and investigators working on cases related to serious, organized and cross-border crime.

The awards acknowledge their contribution to strengthening cooperation between the Prosecutor's Office and its US partner institutions.

Cooperation between the Bulgarian prosecution service, US law enforcement agencies and US diplomats continues to improve the effectiveness of criminal prosecution and strengthen institutional capacity in combating crime, said the Prosecutor's Office.
