site.btaMRF Burgas Chapter Leader Shirokov Arrested in Pomorie

The leader of the Movement for Rights and Freedoms' (MRF) Burgas chapter, Hristo Shirokov, has been arrested in the coastal town of Pomorie Wednesday during a specialized operation by Bulgaria’s General Directorate for Combating Organized Crime (GDCOC). 

Shirokov, who is a longtime municipal councilor in Pomorie and was taken away in handcuffs, said he did not know why he was being detained. He confirmed that he had also been detained for questioning the previous day as part of an ongoing investigation in Kardzhali (Southwest Bulgaria).

Burgas police said they could not provide details about the operation at this time.
