Bulgaria's Centre for Helicopter Emergency Medical Service (HEMS) has completed five emergency missions in less than 48 hours, the service said on Facebook Sunday.

The missions included the rescue of an injured tourist near the Seven Rila Lakes, the airlift of victims from two serious road accidents, and the transfer of two critically ill children between hospitals.

On Saturday, a Sofia-based helicopter transported an injured woman from the Rila Mountains to St. Anna University Hospital in Sofia and later airlifted an 18-year-old woman with severe head injuries from a road crash near Dupnitsa.

On Friday, crews from the Sofia and Sliven operational bases carried out three additional missions. They transferred a critically ill 13-year-old boy from Sandanski to Sofia for specialized treatment, transported a 14-year-old girl injured in a traffic accident from Stara Zagora to Pirogov Emergency Hospital in Sofia, and airlifted a man with multiple injuries from the fatal crash on the Trakia Motorway near Karnobat to Burgas University Hospital after one helicopter was diverted to the scene. A second helicopter was dispatched to complete the original mission to Stara Zagora.
