Bulgaria’s exports to non-EU countries rose 4.1% year on year to EUR 6.4974 billion in January-May, the National Statistical Institute said on Friday. Seven key markets accounted for 48.2% of the total.

Turkiye, China, Serbia, the United States, the United Kingdom, the Republic of North Macedonia and Ukraine were Bulgaria’s main trading partners outside the EU.

In May, Bulgaria’s exports of goods to non-EU countries rose by 0.7% year on year to EUR 1.266 billion.

Under the Standard International Trade Classification, the largest increase in exports was recorded in Mineral Fuels, Lubricants and Related Materials, at 52.6%. The largest decline was in Food and Live Animals, at 22.1%.

Imports of goods into Bulgaria from non-EU countries rose by 22.9% year on year to EUR 11.0633 billion at CIF prices in January-May. The highest value of imports came from Turkiye, China, Serbia and Brazil.

In May, imports into Bulgaria from non-EU countries increased by 34.7% year on year to EUR 2.1234 billion.

Under the Standard International Trade Classification, the largest increase in imports was recorded in Crude Materials, Inedible, Except Fuels, at 58.8%, while the largest decline was in Chemicals and Related Products, at 4.4%.

Bulgaria’s trade balance with non-EU countries, calculated as FOB exports minus CIF imports, was negative at EUR 4.5659 billion in January-May. It was also negative in May, at EUR 857.4 million.

Bulgaria’s Total Trade in Goods with Non-EU Countries and the EU

Bulgaria exported goods worth a total of EUR 18.8036 billion in January-May, up 7.4% year on year, the data showed.

In May, total exports of goods reached EUR 3.7180 billion, up 7.8% year on year.

Bulgaria imported goods worth a total of EUR 24.2057 billion at CIF prices in January-May, an increase of 12.8% year on year.

In May, total imports of goods rose by 17.4% year on year to EUR 4.6759 billion.

Bulgaria’s overall trade balance, calculated as FOB exports minus CIF imports, was negative at EUR 5.4021 billion in January-May. It was also negative in May, at EUR 957.9 million.
