Judicial salaries will no longer increase automatically, and the method used to index them will be changed, Justice Minister Nikolay Naydenov said at a briefing on Monday.

Speaking on the sidelines of the opening of the exhibition 30 Years Supreme Administrative Court: Decisions That Transform People's Lives at the Sofia Courthouse, Naydenov said the independence of the judiciary is linked to judges' independence in making decisions but does not mean the judicial branch is detached from the broader functioning of the state, including the budget process.

He said decisions on judicial salaries must take into account the overall state of the country's budget and public finances, adding that everyone should share the burden equally. According to Naydenov, the changes are part of the government's broader effort to reform automatic salary increase mechanisms. He added that some legal provisions could be refined, but that this is the overall direction of the reform.
