site.btaGERB-UDF: Draft State Budget Shows Political Hypocrisy, Irresponsibility towards Citizens
Commenting on the draft 2026 state budget on Thursday, Temenuzhka Petkova MP of GERB-UDF called it a budget of political hypocrisy and irresponsibility towards the trust that Bulgarian citizens put in Progressive Bulgaria.
She told a news briefing that the revenue projections in the draft budget are nearly the same as those set by the Zhelyazkov Cabinet, but expenditures are by EUR 2.740 billion higher. The deficit is also higher, as is the debt ceiling, she added. In her words, the “mantra” that had been propagated - that the Zhelyazkov Cabinet’s budget was "a budget of plunder and theft" - is being debunked.
Krasimir Valchev MP of GERB-UDF commented that the structure of the draft budget's expenditure side shows that “very little will be done where it is difficult, and savings will come from what is easiest.” In his words, the philosophy behind this budget - and future ones - is that the growth potential created in previous years will be consumed, rather than new potential being created, since savings will be made on development expenditures.
According to Vladislav Goranov, the budget proposed by Progressive Bulgaria is “disappointing” and “lacks managerial ambition.”
