Democratic Bulgaria insists that the Finance Minister withdraw the proposed draft budget and revise it, MP Ivaylo Mirchev told reporters in Parliament on Thursday.

The party is calling for a budget deficit of no more than 3% and no additional spending. “This budget lacks any meaningful reforms, and even worse, it is inflationary and will not lead to anything positive,” Mirchev said.

He recalled the protests held months ago against the budget proposed by GERB and MRF, noting that what is currently being proposed by Progressive Bulgaria is not much different. According to him, the pre-election promises made to the protesters have been abandoned.

Mirchev added that it is possible to have a balanced budget instead of continuing to inflate spending and taking on billions of euros in new foreign debt once again. “We do not see, in any way or anywhere, that the channels through which the main flows of money are directed to the networks of companies linked to GERB and MRF have been shut off,” Mirchev also said.

“This budget has an exceptionally high deficit, which creates additional problems regarding inflation and the erosion of people’s savings,” commented Vladislav Panev.

For his part, Bozhidar Bozhanov said that if the budget is not withdrawn, Democratic Bulgaria will vote against it in the plenary chamber. However, he noted that they have already submitted proposals for its optimization.

Martin Dimitrov also commented on the budget, describing it as dangerous for the country’s public finances. He further said that over the past 25 years there have been only two budgets that violated the key rule of keeping redistribution below 40%: the budget proposed by GERB in 2025 and the current one.
