The government will not carry out mass layoffs or sweeping staff cuts in the public administration without a well-founded analysis, Prime Minister Rumen Radev said at the start of the regular Cabinet meeting on Wednesday.

Radev said the government relies on the administration to carry out key processes in the country and does not want to lose administrative capacity.

He noted that the planned transformation of the public administration would require amendments to a number of laws and regulations, which are currently being prepared and will be submitted to Parliament.

"The reform of the administration is under way," Radev said, adding that the government is conducting a comprehensive review of the effectiveness of individual units, overlapping functions, and opportunities for digitalization and automation.

He also questioned critics calling for large-scale staff reductions, saying the size of the administration had increased during their time in government.
