During a speech marking the 36th anniversary of the founding of VMRO-DPMNE, Prime Minister of North Macedonia and party leader Hristijan Mickoski called for guarantees that no new bilateral conditions would be introduced in the country’s EU accession negotiations and said that “Macedonian identity, language and culture are an indisputable fact”.
His remarks, delivered at a stadium in Strumica, were addressed to European institutions. Mickoski urged the European Council to adopt a conclusion stating that there would be no further bilateral issues and that the “centuries-old Macedonian identity, culture, traditions, customs and language are constant and unquestionable facts” and that the issue should no longer be raised.
He also called on members of the ruling party and citizens of North Macedonia to prepare for what he described as a “long and difficult struggle” to protect national interests while pursuing progress toward a European future.
