Senior Commissioner Nikolay Peltekov has been appointed to the position of Director of the Sofia Directorate of the Interior, the Interior Ministry said on Wednesday.

Peltekov previously held the position of Deputy Director of Sofia Directorate of the Interior.

The director's post was left vacant when Lyubomir Nikolov was appointed Acting Secretary General of the Interior Ministry following the resignation of Georgi Kandev on Tuesday.

Peltekov joined the Ministry of Interior in 2000. He held the positions of border police officer in the Gotse Delchev border police unit; inspector at Sofia's Fifth Precinct; head of a group and head of a sector at the Fourth Precinct. On March 13, 2026, he was temporarily reappointed to the position of Deputy Director of the Sofia Directorate of the Interior.
