Sustainable business practices are no longer a matter of choice but an absolute necessity for the development of the economy and the world, said Yordanka Chobanova, Head of the European Commission (EC) Representation in Bulgaria, at the Green Transition Forum 6.0, held at the Sofia Event Center on Tuesday. The event is organized by Dir.bg with BTA among the forum's media partners.

Chobanova said that the EC and its delegations are actively working to foster dialogue between business, institutions, and civil society regarding responsible business conduct, so that there is a continuous process of consultation and exchange of best practices.

Chobanova summarized the EC's support for responsible business conduct in three steps, highlighting legislation as the most fundamental element, followed by trade agreements. "In every trade agreement, we incorporate the element of sustainable development, demonstrating how care for the individual and nature can be skillfully combined with economic growth throughout the entire supply chain," Chobanova said.

She added that to make all of this happen, the EC also provides financial support, for example through the Single Market programme, while encouraging responsible behaviour such as public procurement. Chobanova also said that the EC is developing guidelines for countries outside the EU on how to implement responsible business conduct.
