site.btaSkills for Green Transition and AI Will Be Central to Future Training Policies, Labour Minister Says

Labour and Social Policy Minister Nataliya Efremova said that a more comprehensive statistical assessment of labour market forecasts is being prepared in order to better align future training policies with economic needs. Speaking during the second day of the Green Transition Forum 6.0 at the Sofia Event Center on Tuesday, she explained that the analysis will help identify which professions are likely to disappear and which will remain, so that training opportunities can be better targeted in the future.

She emphasized that green and digital skills, as well as competencies related to artificial intelligence, will be a key focus of upcoming training programmes. Efremova added that the Ministry of Labour and Social Policy applies different approaches depending on social groups, including young professionals, people with disabilities, and those with limited access to education, as well as individuals seeking higher-level qualifications.

According to Efremova, the ministry has established more than 1,200 digital clubs across the country in 2026. These aim to provide internet access, online training, and learning resources for unemployed people and others without reliable connectivity.

“The most important thing we need to do is teach people how to learn,” Efremova said, noting that no education system can keep pace with technological change, but it can equip people with the ability to continuously acquire new knowledge.

She also said that formal credentials such as diplomas and certificates will likely remain necessary, but career changes will become increasingly common, making lifelong learning the norm. The ministry, she added, is working to base its policies on data-driven forecasts and statistical evidence when designing future-oriented programmes.

The sixth edition of the Green Transition Forum is being held in Sofia from June 1 to 5 under the motto “Europe’s Next Chapter – Competitive. Innovative. Secure”.

The 2026 edition focuses on Europe’s new strategic agenda and examines how the European Union can translate its long-term priorities into concrete action through stronger competitiveness, faster innovation, and enhanced security in an increasingly dynamic global environment.
