site.btaEC Representative in Bulgaria: Europe Needs Economic Strength for Global Influence
Europe needs economic power to have global influence and to preserve the European way of life, said Yordanka Chobanova, Head of the European Commission (EC) Representation in Bulgaria, on Thursday during a forum on the competitiveness of the EU and strategic opportunities for Bulgarian business. The event was organized by EPPA, a leading specialist management consultancy based in Brussels, and took place at Grand Hotel Sofia.
Chobanova talked about EU policies aimed at fostering European business growth and strengthening competitiveness. "We live in complex times, in which major global economies are competing for raw materials, trade routes, and technologies. To overcome our weaknesses in falling behind in innovation, reduce dependencies, and align with clean and affordable energy, the European Commission has developed a plan of concrete measures," Chobanova said. She highlighted the single market, free trade agreements, administrative simplification packages, and the new EU budget.
"We are often criticized for complex bureaucratic procedures, and the EC has already proposed 10 packages in this regard," Chobanova added. She explained that these measures are expected to save EUR 15 billion annually in unnecessary administrative costs, with additional packages to be introduced by the end of this year to help simplify European bureaucracy. Chobanova said that negotiations on the next EU budget are quite intense, and that it includes a new European Competitiveness Fund.
