site.btaSofia Art Salon to Host 115 Artists from 22 Countries

The fourth edition of the International Salon Intuitive will open at the gallery of the Union of Bulgarian Artists in 6 Shipka Street in Sofia on Wednesday and will continue until June 13, the hosts announced.

The exhibition is curated by Rumena Kalcheva and Daniela Osikovska. This year’s edition features 115 artists from 22 countries, presenting works in genres such as landscape, still life, abstraction, and others, created using oil, acrylic, watercolor, and mixed media techniques. The organizers note that the motto “The Only Certainty Is Change” underscores a return to the purely human in the context of globalization, digitalization, and the growing use of artificial intelligence in image creation.

According to the curators, intuitive and naive art is distinguished by the perfect imperfections of the human gesture - the free brushstroke, textures, and authentic distortions in perspective that machines can hardly reproduce. The exhibition presents artists from the main intuitive-naive schools from Eastern and Western European, Latin American, as well as representatives of Bulgarian naive art.

As part of the salon, a master class over several days with Italian painter and sculptor Guido Vedovato will also take place. The works created during the training will be exhibited in gallery spaces in Sofia and Belogradchik.

After its presentation in Sofia, the salon will be hosted from August 6 to September 13 at the Valcho Valchev City Art Gallery in Belogradchik, which houses the country’s only museum exhibition dedicated to international naive and intuitive art.
