site.btaSyrian National Detained for Smuggling Moroccan Migrants in Car Trunk

A Syrian citizen has been detained for up to 72 hours for helping three Moroccan nationals stay in and transit through Bulgaria, the Burgas Regional Prosecution Office said on Tuesday.

Investigators found that two of the migrants were transported in the trunk of a car and the third in the passenger seat. The suspect had no valid driving licence, drove recklessly, caused a traffic accident, and later fled the scene after ignoring a police stop signal. He was later located and arrested in Plovdiv, South Central Bulgaria, after travelling there by train from Burgas.

The Burgas Regional Prosecution Office is expected to request his permanent detention.
