Bulgarian President Iliana Iotova attended the launch of the book Mak by Ilya Velchev at Sofia's Sredets Gallery, the President's Press Secretariat reported on Tuesday.
Iotova said that Velchev's novel shows the importance of the role of intellectuals in society, which is to show the value framework in turbulent times. "Moral concepts have changed so much that people need the voice of writers, essayists and artists," the head of State pointed out.
According to the President, one of the main issues raised in the novel is the eternal value dilemma, which has remained unchanged throughout the centuries: to have or to be. "And this book focuses on the latter: the important thing is to be meaningful and to be," said Iotova.
The novel Mak has been published with the support of the Ministry of Culture.
