Protesting representatives of the transport sector, along with clients and employees of DallBogg: Life and Health Insurance, gathered in Sofia on Thursday to demand the resignation of the Financial Supervision Commission (FSC).

A joint protest by industry organizations from the transport sector, as well as clients and staff of the insurer, is taking place in front of the buildings of the National Assembly and the Council of Ministers. Thursday marks the first sitting of the 52nd Parliament.

The protesters are calling for the resignation of the FSC and later headed to its headquarters. Their demands include the “immediate end to ongoing repression against the company and the criminal increase in prices of mandatory motor third-party liability insurance.” They warned that if no action is taken, further protests will follow, and other sectors affected by rising compulsory insurance costs may also take to the streets.

The FSC told the media that they respect the right to protest, but defined this particular one as unacceptable pressure being exerted on the Commission's work.

BTA recalls that in early April the Financial Supervision Commission imposed a ban on DallBogg: Life and Health Insurance from concluding new insurance or reinsurance contracts across all or specific classes, as well as from extending existing contracts or expanding their coverage. The FSC stated that the measure aims to protect policyholders’ interests and ensure the company’s solvency, citing violations of market conduct rules and breaches of the Insurance Code as the reason.
