site.btaMinister Dechev: "Old Cops Are Using Dirty Tricks to Neutralize Interior Ministry's Secretary General"
In a Facebook post on Friday, acting Interior Minister Emil Dechev wrote: "Old cops are using dirty tricks - all too familiar to us, endlessly worn-out - to undermine and neutralize Georgi Kandev, the acting Secretary General of the Interior Ministry."
Earlier in the day, Kandev said in a video message that he had been pressured to step down by having people make false testimony against him at the Sofia City Prosecution Office. Afterwards, acting Prime Minister Andrey Gurov said in a video message that a "shameful attempt at revanchism" is at hand. “After we put a stop to the attacks on democracy and seized millions of euro being used to undermine the elections, a conspiracy against the Secretary General has been set in motion,” the Prime Minister noted.
According to Dechev, the goal is to frame Kandev and destroy him in the public eye. "I express my full support for Georgi Kandev. I have no doubts whatsoever about his integrity. Soon, the future interior minister will bear a huge responsibility for resolving this fabricated scandal," Dechev added.
The Minister further noted that within just two months, the caretaker Government and the Interior Ministry have demonstrated determination and the will to limit electoral crimes - which he describes as "a plague on Bulgarian democracy" - to the absolute minimum. "This was achieved through great effort, courage, and uncompromising resolve. It was a genuine and dangerous struggle against the forces of darkness that seek to subvert the will of the sovereign - the Bulgarian citizens - during elections! In this war, our adversary has powerful allies in key positions within the judiciary," said Dechev.
