Sofia Mayor Vassil Terziev Wednesday urged the State to act beyond party interests after the April 19 snap parliamentary elections. "My task is to protect the interests of all Sofia residents - regardless of their political choice. And I expect the same from the state - an attitude driven not by party calculations and revanchism, but by responsibility for our future," commented the Sofia Mayor, as quoted by the press center of the Sofia Municipality.
In his words, the elections are over and there was no surprise regarding the winner, but regarding the difference. "Bulgaria has shown that it wants to put an end to the model in which the rules apply only to some and there are "more equal than equals". However, this battle does not end with the elections - it begins there. There are prerequisites for stable governance, but we have to see whether there will be a real will for deep reforms," Terziev said.
He also indicated that his position remains unchanged, regardless of who governs at the national level. The mayor outlined the key topics on which Sofia expects active and consistent work from the state. These include improving accessibility to Vitosha Mountain, progress on the construction of the ring road, accelerating the project for the National Children's Hospital, ensuring sufficient funding for kindergartens and schools, a sustainable model for financing public transport, and others.
"And most importantly - to stop the practice of punishing Sofia residents for political differences. When there are no rules and decisions are made based on sympathy, suspended projects and delayed payments are not the mayor's problem - they are a problem for the entire city," Terziev added.
He recalled that Sofia is the largest municipality and the main driver of the country's economy. "Support for Sofia is not a favor. It is a normal and necessary state policy," said the mayor, adding that the Sofia Municipality will continue to work with any government that is ready for partnership.
