“What happened was the restoration of legality in the governance of the Prosecutor’s Office, and I believe that everyone is a winner as a result,” caretaker Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Justice Andrey Yankulov commented to the media on the decision of the Prosecutors’ Chamber of the Supreme Judicial Council to accept the withdrawal of Borislav Sarafov from the post of acting Prosecutor General and to appoint his deputy, Vanya Stefanova, in his place.

Yankulov noted that the Prosecutors’ Chamber decided to approach the case in the same way as the Judges’ Chamber of the Supreme Judicial Council did when selecting an acting head of the Supreme Administrative Court.

Asked whether he fears a “new regrouping at the top of the Prosecutor’s Office,” Yankulov said he is concerned that developments in the judiciary may continue in the way they have occurred so far.

According to the Minister, his request for disciplinary proceedings against Borislav Sarafov still stands, and the Prosecutors’ Chamber must take a position on it. According to Yankulov, the violations cited in the request and allegedly committed by Sarafov, if established, should lead to his dismissal as a magistrate.
