There are no unverified reports or facts concerning election violations, which has increased public trust in law enforcement authorities, caretaker Interior Minister Emil Dechev said during a working meeting with the leadership and staff of the Regional Directorate of the Ministry of Interior in Haskovo on Wednesday, according to the ministry’s press service.

The Interior Minister said that police officers are currently showing greater activity in their work, which is focused on guaranteeing fair and lawful elections.

Dechev, acting Interior Ministry Secretary General Georgi Kandev, and Labour and Social Policy Minister Hasan Ademov visited Haskovo following reports of illegal campaigning in a building where food aid is distributed, as well as allegations involving the participation of a civil servant in the campaign of a political party.

Kandev confirmed the Minister’s remarks about the increased activity of the Interior Ministry by presenting updated national data. “Behind these figures stand your work, the trust shown by society, and people’s expectations for fair elections,” Kandev said.

Deputy Interior Minister Kaloyan Kaloyanov highlighted the quality of handling reports, the effectiveness of investigations, and the improvement of pre-trial proceedings as key priorities. He said that the successful work of police officers is measured by the public’s sense of security and trust.

The head of the Haskovo Regional Directorate of the Interior Ministry, Miroslav Hristov, presented local-level data.

Later in the day, Dechev, Kandev, and Ademov visited the neighboring regional center of Smolyan, where Dechev also pointed to a significant increase in reports of election violations in the Smolyan region. “We are talking about an increase by several times over - several hundred percent compared to the elections in October 2024,” the minister stressed.
