Connectivity is a key factor in tourism development, Progressive Bulgaria top-of-the-list candidate Ilin Dimitrov said, as quoted by the coalition’s local press service. He added that this includes increasing both charter and scheduled flights.
The issue of connectivity was discussed at a meeting between the coalition’s candidates for MPs and representatives of the tourism sector in Varna. Dimitrov, who has served as tourism minister in two caretaker governments, outlined the coalition’s main priorities for the sector. A key focus was the need for a targeted programme to develop MICE tourism. Industry representatives also stressed the importance of maintaining a clearly defined 9% VAT rate for the entire tourism sector, as well as introducing electronic visas and reducing administrative burdens and unregulated practices.
Participants also discussed the possibility of establishing a sustainable mechanism to subsidize charter programmes, along with developing a long-term strategy for developing Brand Bulgaria, supported by a dedicated fund under the Council of Ministers. The sides also discussed the need for more transparent and effective use of tourism tax revenues.
The Progressive Bulgaria candidates for MPs said they would continue holding similar meetings to strengthen dialogue with different sectors and help shape effective and sustainable policies.
