Three Romanian nationals have been detained for fraud in the western city of Pernik, the Regional Directorate of the Interior Ministry reported.

A report was received on Sunday at around 12.30 pm via the 112 emergency number about three men in a UK-plated car offering gold jewellery on the Sofia–Kyustendil road, at the intersection for the Kristal district. At the scene was also a 41-year-old resident of Radomir, who purchased a fake ring for EUR 20.

According to the police, the three Romanian citizens, aged 24, 31, and 50, were stopping vehicles and, under the pretext of asking for directions to a certain destination, would request information and then offer the fake gold. They have been detained for 24 hours. The prosecutor’s office has been notified and fast-track proceedings have been launched.
