The Bulgarian Boxing Federation is beginning joint work with the Federation of Adapted Physical Activity – Bulgaria (FAFA) to develop opportunities for athletes with Down syndrome to participate in the sport.

The initiative was discussed and received support during an international meeting in Austria, organised on the occasion of World Down Syndrome Day. The event was attended by presidents and representatives of national federations from Austria, Hungary, Serbia, North Macedonia, Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

In this context, Bulgarian Boxing Federation President Krasimir Ininski expressed commitment to developing such opportunities and to joint work with FAFA.

At present, FAFA’s team of experts, together with the boxing federation, is developing adapted rules and methodology to regulate the participation of athletes with Down syndrome. The approach aims to create a clear, structured and tailored environment that allows for gradual development, building confidence and sustainable inclusion in the training and competitive process.

Through this initiative, FAFA continues its consistent policy of expanding access to sport and creating new opportunities for people with Down syndrome, with an emphasis on the quality of preparation and the long-term development of athletes.

The development of a framework for participation in boxing is being implemented for the first time in this format and has the potential to serve as a model for development at international level, the federation said.
