Caretaker Education Minister Prof. Dr. Sergey Ignatov said that Bulgaria is where people write in Cyrillic and speak Bulgarian. He was speaking at the opening of the Third International Cyrillic Forum, titled "Cultural Heritage in the Digital Age", which is organized by President Iliana Iotova in the National Palace of Culture.
Minister Ignatov stated that there is no other invention in the history of mankind that has played such a huge role in human evolution as the invention of writing, and that Bulgarians should feel a sense of pride because they are one of the few peoples who have invented their own writing.
In his words, writing is a cultural code, and Bulgarians are present in a so-called "cultural DNA of the peoples" which spans from the Adriatic and the Baltic Sea, to Vladivostok. Ignatov said that the greatest contribution and the greatest obligation of modern Bulgarians is to continue this effort.
The official opening includes the exhibitions "Bulgaria - Homeland of the Cyrillic Alphabet", "Epigraphic Heritage", "Bulgarian ABCs and Vedas", as well as greetings from the Bulgarian Orthodox Church, the Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of Education and Science, the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and the National Library "St. Cyril and Methodius".
