Haskovo District Court sentenced Serbian national Nihat Rahimi to four years and eight months in prison for trying to smuggle 172.242 kg of marijuana, valued at EUR 1.409 million, through the Kapitan Andreevo border checkpoint, the court's press service reported on Tuesday.
In addition to serving the prison sentence, Rahimi will also have to pay a fine of EUR 36,000. The sentence is the result of an agreement between the defence and the prosecution that was approved by the court.
Rahimi's trial began on September 1, 2025. The marijuana was discovered in a hidden compartment of Rahimi's truck during a joint operation by the Customs Agency and the General Directorate for Combating Organised Crime under the Ministry of Interior. The shipment was monitored by Bulgarian services along its route from Vidin-Kalafat to the Kapitan Andreevo border checkpoint.
The court’s ruling is final and not subject to appeal or protest.
