site.bta50th National Cartoon Art Exhibition to Open in Sofia April 1
The 50th National Exhibition of Bulgarian Cartoon Art will open at the Union of Bulgarian Artists (UBA) Gallery at 6 Shipka Street, Sofia on April 1 at 6pm, the UBA said on Tuesday. This is one of the oldest and most significant annual events organized by the UBA, according to the press release.
The exhibition will feature a juried selection of works by artists across the country. The jury will recognize the best entries and award prizes on the opening day.
The show will present cartoons and exaggerated portraits of well‑known personalities as well as a variety of satirical works showcasing the richness of the genre in different techniques, from classical drawing and digital graphics to painting. According to the UBA, the themes are diverse, with political satire and various crises often taking centre stage as a source of inspiration, alongside works with sporting, erotic and everyday life motifs.
The prizes to be presented include the Union of Bulgarian Artists Award, the Cartoon Section Award for Lifetime Achievement, the Sofia Municipality Donyo Donev Award, and prizes from various media outlets and partners.
