The SamElyon SPA Complex near Samokov is developing a new model combining SPA services, recovery, and active tourism, Sports and Wellness Director Aleksandar Gruev told BTA. The hotel complex offers classical holidays with SPA services, recovery practices, and options for active recreation in nature.
The complex houses a medical centre that complements and enhances the services offered through modern rehabilitation and recovery programmes designed for professional athletes and active individuals, as well as for people with injuries, musculoskeletal issues, and neurological conditions.
The centre is equipped with high-end, state-of-the-art physical therapy equipment, as well as specialized areas for kinesiotherapy, functional rehabilitation, and hydrotherapy, all designed to meet the latest standards for effectiveness, safety, and precision in therapeutic care.
Gruev added that one of the most interesting recovery methods is general cryotherapy via a cryosauna - an approach for physical fatigue that helps reduce muscle tension, accelerates recovery processes, and has a beneficial effect on overall vitality.
“Demand is changing - people want to combine their vacation with something beneficial for themselves. That is why, at our facility, the SPA experience is central, but it is enhanced with opportunities for activity and recovery,” he added. According to him, guests are increasingly choosing stays that include both time for relaxation and activities and treatments that improve their physical condition. “We are seeing interest from both people who are actively involved in sports and those who simply want to stay in shape and maintain their fitness during their vacation,” he added.
The complex also attracts athletes seeking conditions for post-workout recovery, as the combination of sports facilities, a SPA area, and restorative practices allows for a flexible stay. Retreat programmes, which combine exercise, treatments, and downtime, hold a special place in the concept. They are organized in various formats and are aimed at people seeking a more structured experience.
"In our retreats, we combine exercise, recovery, and tranquility, creating an environment for complete physical and mental rejuvenation. This provides a more holistic effect and is something that more and more people are seeking," said Sports and Wellness Deputy Manager and sports physiotherapist Georgi Mitrev.
He noted that interest in restorative practices is growing not only among athletes. “More and more people are choosing prevention - and that is precisely our goal: to take care of health before problems arise, rather than merely reacting to conditions that have already occurred. Our 'non-prescription medicine' for prevention is movement, and prevention is an investment in health that strengthens the body and saves money,” Mitrev noted.
The SamElyon SPA Complex combines these various elements into a comprehensive stay concept. The hotel complex offers accommodations in rooms, apartments, and villas, as well as a SPA zone featuring indoor and outdoor swimming pools, thermal facilities, and relaxation areas. The main focus is on combining the traditional SPA experience with opportunities for exercise and relaxation. It is situated in a park setting near the Iskar River and Lago Park, with direct access to trails in the Rila Mountains.
