Acting Prosecutor General Borislav Sarafov, caretaker Interior Minister Emil Dechev and acting State Agency for National Security (SANS) Chair Denyo Denev signed an order to establish a National Interagency Unit in connection with the upcoming elections for the 52nd National Assembly, the press centre of the prosecution service said on Friday.
The establishment of a National Interagency Unit is regulated in the Election Code. It includes Deputy Prosecutor General Vanya Stefanova, prosecutors from the Supreme Cassation Prosecution Office (SCPO) and representatives of the leaderships of the Interior Ministry and SANS. It will operate from the day the election campaign begins – March 20, 2026 – until 30 days after the Central Election Commission (CEC) officially announces the final election results.
The prosecution service notes that the unit’s activities aim to guarantee the observance of citizens’ political rights, ensure a swift and adequate response to counter crimes related to the electoral process, and support the lawful conduct of the elections. Information will be exchanged with the CEC and with regional interagency units across the country, and the received data will be analyzed and summarized.
A duty unit will also operate within the SCPO to process all incoming reports related to election violations. Citizens and organizations can submit reports via the email addresses of prosecution offices across the country.
