Representatives of 50 sports clubs from across the country have submitted a request Wednesday to the Bulgarian Wrestling Federation and the Ministry of Youth and Sports for the convening of an extraordinary General Assembly to change the leadership and the statutes of the Federation. The documents were filed by lawyer Stanislav Trendafilov and a notary, with the dissatisfied clubs expecting the assembly to be organized within one month.
Trendafilov previously served as a lawyer for CSKA Sofia during the management of Grisha Ganchev and on Wednesday represented the CSKA sports club when submitting the documents. Wrestlers from the club insist on training with their personal coaches, while the federation remains firm in its intention to conduct centralized training with national team coaches at the Diana Hall. For this reason, Olympic champion Semen Novikov, European champion Kiril Milov, and other CSKA athletes did not compete at the World Championship in Zagreb last autumn.
There is a strong likelihood that they will also miss the European Championship in Tirana, as, according to their representatives, their most recent invitation again calls for centralized training. It was issued earlier on Wednesday after a protest against the federation’s leadership, followed by talks between the two sides at the Ministry.
“I have been authorized by 50 clubs duly registered with the Bulgarian Wrestling Federation to submit, on their behalf, a request to convene an extraordinary General Assembly with an agenda including changes to the leadership, the President and the Federation's representative, as well as the adoption of a new statute,” Trendafilov told journalists.
On March 4, a protest demanding the resignation of Bulgarian Wrestling Federation President Stanka Zlateva was held in front of the Ministry of Youth and Sports for the same reason.
