site.btaHealth Insurance Fund Governor Says Fund Coverage Depends on Political Decisions

The activities paid for by the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) are a matter of political decision, said NHIF Governor Petko Stefanovski on Wednesday. He participated in the discussion on "Priority: Health - from public attitudes to political decisions," organized by the Bulgarian Medical Association.

"Everything in the healthcare system depends on politicians," commented Stefanovski. According to him, the NHIF will continue to work to increase trust in the institution. He recalled that a "NHIF for You" campaign has been organized, which aims to explain the health insurance rights of citizens and the activities that the Fund pays for.

Stefanovski also said that the NHIF does not have a budget for 2026, recalling that the MPs adopted an extension law on the 2025 budget. According to him, if there had been a budget for this year, new prices and activities agreed with the professional organizations of medical professionals and dentists would have been in force.
