The international science forum "THE EXTRAORDINARY, THE EVENT. Radical Figures in Contemporary Philosophy and Art" will bring leading Bulgarian and Japanese philosophers to Sofia on March 19 and 20. The two-day event is dedicated to the pressing challenges of our time which contemporary philosophy, the arts and humanities are facing today.

The forum is organized by New Bulgarian University's Centre for Art Theory and Contemporary Artistic Practices, in association with the East Asian Academy for New Liberal Arts at the University of Tokyo. It will take place at NBU's Museum on March 19 and at the university's Prof. Bogdan Bogdanov Library on March 20.

Three Japanese guests will participate in the forum, including prominent contemporary Japanese philosophers and theorists Prof. Futoshi Hoshino (University of Tokyo) and Prof. Hanako Takayama (Meiji University).

Prof. Hoshino is a close colleague of Bulgarian philosopher Prof. Boyan Manchev and a student of Japan's most renowned philosopher, Prof. Yasuo Kobayashi, who visited New Bulgarian University in 2019. After a five-year hiatus due to the pandemic, the conference "Creation, the World" was held in March 2025, marking the resumption of the annual Bulgarian-Japanese university forums.
