site.btaBulgaria Reports Progress in Process of Joining US Visa Waiver Program

Expert teams from Bulgaria and the United States held talks on the progress of Bulgaria's accession to the US Visa Waiver Program, the Foreign Ministry said in a press release on Wednesday. The meeting was attended by representatives of Bulgarian institutions participating in the inter-institutional working group led by Bulgaria's national coordinator for the program, Dimana Dramova, as well as experts from the US Department of State and the US Department of Homeland Security.

During the talks, the two sides noted the excellent bilateral cooperation and Bulgaria's substantial progress. Among the key results are the finalization of the necessary bilateral legal framework, strengthened procedures to prevent abuse, and expanded coordination in the areas of border security and information exchange.

Bulgaria continues to work toward meeting all requirements for joining the Program, including the criterion of achieving a refusal rate below 3% for US tourist and business visa applications.
