Bulgaria's Industrial Production Index decreased by 2.6% in January 2026 compared to the previous month, show preliminary and seasonally adjusted data published by the National Statistical Institute (NSI) on Tuesday. Compared to January 2025, the calendar-adjusted Industrial Production Index went down by 8.6%.
Back in December 2025, the NSI reported a month-on-month increase by 0.3% and an year-on-year drop by 6.7%.
In January 2026 compared to December 2025, a decrease was registered in the mining and quarrying industry, by 18.3%, and in manufacturing, by 3.3%, while an increase was observed in the electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply, by 2.3%. In manufacturing, the most significant drop was reported for electrical equipment, by 39.6%, leather and related products, by 23.2%, and in other manufacturing, by 21.0%. An increase was observed in the manufacture of basic metals, by 35.0%, and of tobacco products, by 13.2%.
In January 2026 compared to the same month of 2025, a drop was reported in the mining and quarrying industry, by 23.2%, in the electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply, by 18.6%, and in manufacturing, by 5.3%. In manufacturing, a significant decline in production was observed for leather and related products, by 33.1%, other transport equipment, by 19.8%, and other non-metallic mineral products, by 19.4%. A rise was reported in the manufacture of tobacco products, by 67.1%, and of basic metals, by 44.1%.
