The Confederation of Independent Trade Unions in Bulgaria (CITUB) is calling for annual wage growth of 10%, CITUB President Plamen Dimitrov said on Monday while presenting to journalists a Memorandum on Bulgaria’s Socio-Economic Development for the 2026–2030 period.
On the eve of another parliamentary election, and over the past 10 to 15 years, it has become a commitment of CITUB to present to citizens and political parties its vision for the country's current socio-economic development priorities, what Bulgaria should look like and how it should move forward, Dimitrov said. According to him, these are the confederation's messages to those seeking to govern.
"It is not an impossible task for the minimum wage to reach EUR 1,002 by 2030 and for the average wage to reach EUR 2,225," Dimitrov said. He added that the minimum wage should be at least 50% of the average wage, in line with the provision adopted in Article 244 of the Labour Code.
According to him, the minimum wage should also accelerate its convergence with the so-called living wage and reach at least 80% of it by 2030.
"Our most important goal is for the economy to function sustainably and generate the corresponding incomes without creating additional inflationary pressure," Dimitrov said.
