Citizens gathered in central in Sofia on Sunday to demand respect for women’s rights and an end to violence. The event was organized by the Feminist Mobilizations collective and the LevFem group. This year it is held under the slogan “Care and Resistance.”
Protesters called for an end to violence against women. They were carrying posters with messages such as: “Not one more!”, “Woman, Life, Freedom,” “Care has no day off,” “No to war!”, “Our care is strength!”
They also called for social, healthcare, and education systems that provide accessible and high-quality care for everyone. The protest expresses solidarity with all women for their dignity and freedom from violence at home and in the workplace, for incomes that recognize the value of their labor, and for the right to a dignified old age, according to the organizers.
They also demanded that equal opportunities in the workplace, equal pay, protection against discrimination, and decent wages for women’s work in both the public and private sectors.
Later, the protesters marched in a procession through Sofia. The march started from the Palace of Justice, and continued along Vitosha Boulevard toward the National Palace of Culture.
