For a second year the National Ethnographic Museum is partnering with the Bulgarian Folktales Challenge initiative, which is taking place annually since 2021. The challenge is open on social media through the Instagram profile @bulgarianfolktales and allows artists from all over the world to create and share their works, inspired by Bulgarian folktales, legends and mythical creatures, the Institute of Ethnology and Folklore Studies with Ethnographic Museum - Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (IEFEM-BAS) said on Wednesday.
The main theme of this year's edition is "Hurts and Herbs". In the span of four weeks during the month of March the participants will interpret different characters and herbs from Bulgaria's folklore tradition. First week's (March 1-8) theme is Mora/Verbena; second one (March 9-15) is Fever/Thyme; third one (March 16-22) is The Poxes/Chamomile, and the fourth one (March 23-31) is Plague/Ivy, the organizers said.
They added that the challenge is open for various types of art – from illustrations, music and photography to embroidery and custom scents. Images created with artificial intelligence will not be accepted for participation.
