GERB leader Boyko Borissov condemned Iran’s retaliatory attacks in the Middle East as a "dangerous escalation" that must stop immediately, urging a return to diplomacy while warning that concerns over Tehran’s nuclear program are undermining global security.

"Developments in the region, where thousands of Bulgarians live, are causing serious concern," Borissov said in a Facebook post. He stressed that as an EU border state with a balanced foreign policy, Bulgaria has always viewed diplomacy as the best way to resolve conflicts. At the same time, he argued that Iran’s failure to prove it is not developing nuclear weapons, in breach of international agreements, fuels doubts about security and stability worldwide, including in Europe.

He expressed hope that negotiations would soon prevail and produce a peaceful solution in the interest of Middle Eastern countries as well as partners Israel and the United States.
