The Orpheus Talents International Competition opened at the Academy of Music, Dance and Fine Arts in Plovdiv on Wednesday.
Academy Rector Dr. Zhan Pehlivanov said at the opening of the competition: "I congratulate the entire team of the Academy, represented by Senior Assistant Professor Nikolay Gurbanov, for having managed to develop it from an idea for a local competition with a folklore focus to the scale of this serious forum in a new direction of music, dance and visual arts."
“The first edition was held in 2015. Two years later, Plovdiv hosted the competition and shortly after that it became a product of our Academy, for which I am very happy,” said Gurbanov, the event's main coordinator.
Several former rectors of the Academy attended the opening of the competition, as well as special guest and jury member Prof. Ryszard Minkiewicz, Rector of the Stanislaw Moniuszko Academy of Music in Gdansk, Poland.
The official opening marked the beginning of the first day of competition for all classical instruments, singing, and pop and jazz singing and master classes. The event will continue until February 7.
