Speaking on bTV on Tuesday, GERB leader Boyko Borissov said that ”for weeks now, we have seen elections being delayed, and we want them to be held immediately.”

He described the current political situation as “extravagant.” “After all the experiments we did with the Constitution, everything has become like that,” he said.

Commenting on the pool of senior public officials eligible to become caretaker prime ministers, introduced with the 2023 constitutional amendments, Borissov said it “sounded exotic” at the time. Asked about GERB’s involvement in the constitutional revisions, he said: “I accept my blame and will no longer get involved with such people,” referring to Continue the Change - Democratic Bulgaria.

As to the resignation of the Rosen Zhelyazkov Cabinet announced in December 2025, Borissov said they had gotten the message of the protesters. “I take my hat off to the colleagues from Continue the Change - Democratic Bulgaria for the way they organize the protests,” he said.

“I do not want our ministers to remain in the Cabinet for a minute longer. We are forced to stay,“ the GERB leader noted.

He also commented on the parliamentary Committee on Constitutional and Legal Affairs’s decision to back, at second reading, amendments to the Election Code limiting the number of polling stations outside diplomatic and consular missions in non-EU countries to 20. “There are sufficient polling stations for people to cast their votes. We just honoured our commitment to Vazrazhdane and There Is Such a People,“ Borissov said.

When asked whether acting Prosecutor General Borislav Sarafov was legitimate, Borissov replied in the affirmative.
