In a declaration for the opening of Parliament's new plenary session, BSP - United Left said that they have contributed to the stability of the State and the peace of mind of Bulgarian citizens in the last months. The declaration was read out by BSP - United Left Floor Leader Dragomir Stoynev.
BSP - United Left is part of the outgoing regular government.
Stoynev expressed regret that Bulgaria will be the first country, in his words, to enter the eurozone without a regular government and without a regular budget, on the eve of parliamentary elections.
The MP highlighted Bulgaria's entry into the eurozone as a success. Over the past eleven months, there has been economic growth, with Bulgaria ranking third in the EU in terms of this indicator, he noted.
Stoynev also pointed to the growth in foreign and domestic investment. This shows that when there is a regular government and a regular parliament, things happen, the MP said.
The focus of the Socialists' declaration was the lack of a regular state budget for 2026. It is worrying that in December, only the BSP - United Left listened to the trade unions, Stoynev said. He noted that despite warnings, a rule had been adopted to index people's incomes, which would come into effect at the end of January. However, no one knows which index will be used - the harmonized index or the consumer price index, the MP explained.
"By not adopting the 2026 State Budget Bill, we shot ourselves in the foot," Stoynev said regarding the modernization of the Bulgarian army.
There is no national unity because when elections are coming up, no one is interested in legislation, Stoynev noted. The BSP - United Left believes that the most important thing for the month in which Parliament will be working is the adoption of legislation on combating speculation, he stressed.
The BSP - United Left group calls for fair and transparent elections. "We must be extremely careful not to alienate people who already distrust the legislative process, but rather to attract them," Stoynev said. "It is up to us in this month to show whether our actions can prove that we have been up to the task as representatives of the people and that we have met the expectations of Bulgarian citizens," the BSP - United Floor Leader told the MPs.
