The average monthly wage in Bulgaria during the third quarter of this year stood at BGN 2,549, which is 12% higher compared to the same quarter of 2024, shows data from the information bulletin of the Ministry of Labour and Social Policy (MLSP) in the area of income and living standards, published on the Ministry’s website here on Tuesday.
The highest average salary is in Sofia-city - BGN 3,474, which is nearly 25% more than the national average. The largest growth in average remuneration in the third quarter of the year compared to the same period in 2024 is observed in Targovishte (19.6%), Silistra (18.7%) and Smolyan (17.2%).
Data from the information bulletin show that the total household income for the period is BGN 6,988. This is 4.4% more than a year earlier, the MLSP commented.
The average salaries are above the national level in eight economic sectors, with about one-third of all employees working in these sectors. The highest pay is in the sectors “Creation and distribution of information and creative products; telecommunications” (BGN 5,512); “Financial and insurance activities” (BGN 3,716); “Production and distribution of electricity, heat, and gaseous fuels” (BGN 3,539); “Professional activities and research” (BGN 3,460); “Public administration” (BGN 3,088); “Mining industry” (BGN 3,071); “Education” (BGN 2,780); “Human health and social work activities” (BGN 2,584), according to the Ministry’s data.
The average gross annual salary in 2024 is BGN 27,898, increasing by 13.9% compared to 2023, according to final data from the National Statistical Institute (NSI), published at the end of November.
