If the government collapses, chaos will immediately ensue, GERB leader Boyko Borissov said at the party's National Youth Academy in Razlog on Saturday.
Addressing young party members, Borissov commented on the recent protest in Sofia against the adoption of the 2026 budget bills. He said that many participants did not understand the real issue, which he described as Bulgaria’s entry into the euro area.
The GERB leader said that if the government is destabilized and falls, prices will rise due to the lack of current controls.
He also criticized what he called the "new bloc of parties and coalitions, including Continue the Change – Democratic Bulgaria, Vazrazhdane, Velichie, Morality, Unity, Honour (MECh), skulls and bones [a possible reference to ex-gambling mogul Vassil 'The Skull' Bojkov], and [Vice President] Iliana Iotova."
Borissov outlined the options ahead of the 2026 draft budget vote. He said that the Council of Ministers cannot simply withdraw the draft. The government could reach a consensus with the trade unions and employers by Tuesday, followed by agreement among ruling coalition parties, with an additional report submitted to the Committee on Budget and Finance between the first and second readings. If no agreement is reached by Wednesday, an extended budget would need to be prepared.
