The main currencies used for international payments from Bulgaria in 2024 are US dollars, euro, leva, Chinese yuan, and British pounds. The US dollar accounts for 69.11% of all international SWIFT payments from Bulgaria, compared with approximately 58% globally, shows an analysis by the global financial services provider iBanFirst. The analysis covers 189,945 SWIFT transactions carried out by the company’s clients through its platform in 2024 and tracked using the iBanFirst Payment Tracker, which allows for local-level comparison, including monitoring trends in Bulgaria.

Payments in US dollars and euro together make up 83.3% of outgoing transactions by number and 95% by volume. The most frequently used payment corridors are China, Turkiye, India, Hong Kong, and the United States.

“The analysis provides a clear picture of which corridors are fastest, which payments experience delays, what role the currency, intermediary banks, and time differences play, and when the best time is to send an international payment so that businesses can plan with confidence,” commented Dean Todorov, Country Director for Bulgaria at iBanFirst.
