The Sofia District Prosecutor’s Office has charged and detained a 25-year-old Estonian citizen who injured a police officer in the Bulgarian capital on Wednesday, the prosecuting magistracy reported on Thursday.

At around 5:20 a.m. on Cherni Vrah Blvd. in Sofia, the defendant allegedly punched a police officer in the face while the officer was performing his duties related to maintaining public order. As a result, the officer sustained a minor bodily injury.

A pre-trial investigation has been initiated. Given the risk that the suspect may attempt to flee, the supervising prosecutor has ordered his detention for up to 72 hours.
