site.btaSofia Mayor Says Municipality Is Underfunded by State: "Without Institutional Support, We Cannot Advance City's Agenda"

The Sofia Municipality is underfunded by the State despite all the projects it has defended, Sofia Mayor Vassil Terziev said during the presentation of the Municipality’s annual report for 2025, the second year of his term.

"We would be very happy to have even better cooperation with the State regarding the more important issues for the city," he noted. Terziev said that the underfunding creates challenges for the Municipality and for the companies implementing the projects.

"When all contractors are ‘bled dry’, they cannot possibly complete their projects," Terziev said, adding that the Municipality is dependent on ministries and agencies such as the Environment Ministry and the Regional Development Ministry. "Without institutional support, we cannot advance the city’s agenda," the Sofia Mayor stressed.
